2 things I recommend when using Tuvie:
- 1. This site is tagged well and usually gives a good number of results when searching. The search box is hard to find though. It's in the upper right and black, kind of camouflaging it with the site. Type something general like "helicopter" or "wings" and I guarantee you'll find something cool.
- 2. Click on one of the listed items towards the right to hone your search.
Here's an example of some of the cool stuff on Tuvie, focusing mostly on vehicles. (Note: all of these were found by searching for "helicopter" and "wings"):
I've found that lately I've been gravitating more to sites like Tuvie as opposed to art community sites. I guess I've just started paying less attention to my "competition" and more into letting other kinds of art and design influence my art.
Honestly, truly, I think a lot of this stuff is way cooler than much of the sci-fi design work I'm seeing on the usual concept art sites. Using elements from these designs makes me feel better, because I'm basing it on (almost) reality. Of course, I think the design language goes both ways. Industrial designers and engineers could very well be inspired by sci-fi artists when it comes to aesthetics, or even the idea itself.
